Pansees said that all men seek happiness and that every action of every man is with that motive. I respectfully disagree. But he did make a good point when he said that experience dupes us from misfortune to misfortune and leads us to death.

That now, is something I can corroborate with. If there’s anything I’ve learnt in the past few years, it is that happiness is just a perceived sense of ecstasy that we as humans tend to pursue. Milton in Paradise Lost knew that. He just didn’t tell us. From personal experience I have come to understand now that what we really quest after is peace and serenity and tranquility and quietude and dignity and quiescence and placidity, which, considering the present state of the world is amazingly hard to come by. We are too bothered with and shackled up in gathering material posessions and the percieved ecstasy we talked about. It is when our efforts go in vain and when we have lost something astoundingly huge that we understand the futility of it all.

Examples teach us little. No resemblance is ever so perfect that there is not some slight difference, and hence we expect that our hope will not be deceived on this occasion as before. To learn from experiences is to have learnt nothing and yet we still hope. We as humans tend not to adapt. Those who supposedly do know that they are making a compromise and to say that I am experienced is to know that I will have to brace harder for when the fall comes.

The past few months have been exceedingly kind in mentoring me. And yet the apprehension stays. Looking back, it would seem I was happier last sem with a broken spirit. The faint dazzle in summers and the decay since has probably made the transition from broken to that of a wounded spirit. Whether that is true or not, only god knows. In the meantime, I leave you with this…
PS: 'peace and serenity and tranquility and quietude and dignity and quiescence and placidity' might all seem the same word. Look closer

Nice Post. Its hard to accept that "experience dupes us from misfortune to misfortune and leads us to death", but then, most truths are hard to accept.
And as for the broken and wounded spirits, yeah, can appreciate your feelings when u wish to show the transition.

One suggestion, btw. Increase the font size, the post is hardly readable right now.

Baff !

Actually , It's the concept of karma that I guess you arrived at (somewhere in the middle of the post when you say you realized the futility of it all)

Cheer up [:-)]

Although i do agree with the fact that what we truly look for in life is "Peace" but it doesn't stop at that....it is our quest for many unspeakable desires which keeps us restless n always on the move...
Life is one long journey...there will be experiences of all kinds...
don't let bitter experiences spoil ur beliefs..."love" exists...n it will surely fall into ur kitty in not one way but many...
keep the spirit alive..the spirit that u enliven in others...
including me... ;)
Good luck is on its way..
keep smiling :)
I really liked the post....

Your thought has a well substantiated logic.
Adding on to your stream of thoughts, there are two things i've noticed (i won't base it on my experience, coz it doesn't count anymore :)
1) khush hai wahi jo thoda bechaain hai (a song from rock on)

2) obsessions of material possessions are not bad i guess, they don't guarantee peace, serenity and all virtues of the same meaning, but they help me live, one day at a time.

mmmmmm some philosophical stuff, nice.
I thought would never read philosophical blog but I did, and tell you what it was great. Short and sweet. Neither too general nor very specific to be understood.
Yeah the as mentioned above I haven't read any of the references you made but for sure all are very relevant to the idea around the blog.
@ the earlier commentators: plz avoid my comment :P, and yeah about the font I found it great. I would rater prefer to read a blog in this font.
@baffling: please suggest the improvement in my critical writing. I need to work on it. Tell me what points should be covered and what are not required for a standard comment.
[:)] I know it sounds foolish, you can curse me, no problem

@Myth: theek hai dost... bade bade lekhak aisa kehte hain toh mazaak hi lagta hai

@Aditi: Peace and tranquility are to free the soul of its burdens so tht it can wander around freely without looking back at the earth. Seeking happiness is just a way of keeping ourselves materially occupied while our soul is trapped inside the dungeons of wealth. :)

Its pretty wierd that Ive been thinking about this particular post of yours since yesterday. I do feel that most of us never take the time out to really ponder over what our real purpose in life is. Are we just a product of Darwin's hypothesis or whether there indeed is a Maker out there who created us. N if indeed he created us, was it with a definite end in mind or just to satisfy certain celestial whims of His...

P.S Your last para was really touching. Guess it is not what we lost in life that matters, but what we really have..Not who broke us down and tore us apart, but who lent a helping hand to pull us out..

Cheers

@ aditi: I think i've got it now. I guess we're both referring to teh same quality with different ethereal names... what i refer to as tranquility is actually the joy of the soul, which you termed happiness.

happiness for me meant merriment that we caranally seek.

Making sense?
